To survive, Janelle now undergoes dialysis every single night, connected to a machine for nine hours while she sleeps.

Living donation carries minimal risk — less than 1% for long-term complications, and it’s actually safer than childbirth. For the recipient, a kidney from a living donor offers a significantly better quality of life and longer-lasting health than one from a deceased donor.
